The other day I was invited to attend the Wedgewood launch at The Langham Hotel in central Auckland. The hotel itself is beautifully ornate with gilt gold trimmings and a baby pink colour scheme – the perfect setting for a high tea. The event was held to celebrate the tradition of afternoon tea established by The Langham with Wedgewood based on the story of Lady Anna, the Dutchess of Bedford who held mid-afternoon tea and cakes for her friends back in the 1700s. Today, The Langham worldwide serves guests loose leaf tea in fine bone china flown over from England, accompanied by cakes and savory treats every afternoon. Her Majesty The Queen would have approved. And so would my Oma.
Refreshments included tartlets, savoury beet panna cotta, duck roulade, a variety of club sandwiches, scones with jam & cream, rhubarb compote with vanilla drizzle, strawberry tartlets, vanilla and salted caramel macaroons and many more.
