OLIVIA ROUND HONG KONG

Goodbye New Zealand…

Hello Hong Kong!

That moment you peek through the clouds for the first time is so magical, especially around dawn when the light is this stunning:

We were greeted at HK by a lovely man called Bobby. Bobby has two kids and chatted to us about his trip to NZ.

When we arrived at Hotel Indigo we were welcomed by Kitty who was very helpful and so so sweet!

The rooms were beautifully designed with the most amazing view, equipped with mod cons and very clean (as you can see from the photos below)

We arrived at 6am, but that wasn’t going to stop us from exploring… We went into the city with our cameras and photographed the bustling markets, visited the Man Mo temple and walked through the parks.

I was fascinated by how hard everyone worked. Especially older people. It’s sad to see such a division between the rich and the poor – but also very eye opening at the same time. Travelling is so important to put life in perspective. Although NZ may have it’s problems, we have a pretty comfortable lifestyle. It may not be opulent and designer, but we have food, shelter and education – which paired with a positive attitude and love of life, is all you really need.

The street stalls were so colourful and you could buy any weird and obscure food items you could possibly think of. In one stall they sold goldfish as pets, as well as fish curries….. I thought I may pass on that one for dinner.

Later that evening we met some friends for dinner at a lovely Malaysian place – and their son Sam showed me around Lan Kwai Fong, which is basically the party district. I found it so interesting how many expat Brits and American’s there were. And how teenagers could buy alcohol from the local dairy. We also took a walk up to the top of the IFC mall where you can buy fruit smoothies and see an exquisite 360 view of the skyline.
