This past semester break I booked a spontaneous trip to the UK to suss out my future after I graduate. After working day shifts (at Bird on a Wire and Dantes Pizzeria) and working at uni illegally afterhours until early hours of the morning, I managed to save up enough for my trip – even if it was on a shoestring (the more fun / adventurous way to travel!)
Once arriving in London, I grabbed a TimeOut – this now becoming a travel habit. A big advertisement for British Summer Time caught my eye.. so I decided I would get accreditation (that’s a story in itself) and shoot whatever shows were on that day.
I went on Sunday (unfortunately a couple of days off seeing Tom Odell!) – McBusted (formerly McFly & Busted), The Vamps and Backstreet Boys were headline acts (oh the school disco memories…)
So I knew I was in for a fair bit of boy-band fun and that earplugs would be essential due to the shrieks of teenage fan-girls.
I hopped on the subway and headed to Knightsbridge carrying an aztec rucksack of worldly goods (which I soon learnt screams, “look at me, I’m an indie kid with rather great taste in music”), my 90s blue bucket hat, vintage ray-ban sunnies and infamous arizona birks.
Shooting from the pit, the bands were mesmerising to watch. Their energy and liveliness was effervescent – I could almost see the sweat drip from Tom Fletcher’s brow as he gave an incredibly theatrical performance literally metres from my lens.
During BSB there was a major thunderstorm. Although my little Canon has had it’s battering from storms to paparazzi swarms, I thought I better seek refuge as the poor thing wouldn’t stand a chance. By this point, Hunter boot wearing Londonites were counting their lucky stars that they finally got their glorious moment of telling their boy friends, “Hun, I explained this already. They’re not just an attempt to look like Alexa Chung at Glastonbury, they’re like to protect me from the rainstorm, okay?”. Fair call I say, but have the Wellington’s done their dash? Or an iconic feature of festival-wear we can’t let go of? You tell me 🙂
I saw some cool looking cats hanging out under the stage so went to join them (now drenched but buzzing with concert adrenaline) – it was me, the adorable and talented young boys of The Three Dudes, another photographer, and Danny Jones – Lead singer of McBusted. I naively had no clue who he was so thankfully did not fan-girl. We amused ourselves by chatting about life and the universe, watched the crowd go wild in the rain, the patter of lively feet above us (who belonged to the BSB) and the boys and Danny had chin up competitions on the set rigging.
Anyway enough talk from me, here are some concert shots from an awesome day with great new friends! Thanks for having me London, much love x

The incredibly talented rhythm/percussive guitar busker I met Simeon Baker (who reminds me of our own Lukas Jury – if you haven’t already, check him out)

Lewis Morgan of Rixton cheekily stopped for a quick photo while managers hurried him along 😉
